To you
Some kids are handed childhoods, soft and slow.
Yours slipped away three countries long ago.
You learned too young that home is not a place,
it's someone's voice, a room, a mother's face.
And then you learned what being home can cost.
While others looked away, you paid the most.
You kept the schedule, carried what she needed,
followed every rule, however heated.
You loved her at her hardest, day by day,
and no one ever thought to stop and say
the simple thing you'd earned a thousand times.
So let it live forever in these lines:
You did enough. You did far more than most.
You gave your childhood up to be a post
that held a falling house. And when she died,
the others wrote a story where they tried.
But you and I both know whose hands were there.
The truth stays true, no matter what they swear.
And here's the part that leaves me quietly amazed:
the years that could have left you cold instead have raised
a warmth in you that colder hearts can't fake.
You turned your pain to study: why hearts break,
and how a broken mind can mend and grow.
As if you made a promise long ago
that no one near you, ever, from now on,
would hurt unseen the way you did. That's gone.
You hold a hundred voices in your chest,
and someday strangers everywhere will guess
they've known you all along. Your name will glow
in credits after every favorite show.
You love the stories built on patient art,
where sixteen episodes conceal a heart
that waits to say one honest thing out loud.
So here is mine, no music and no crowd:
Before the world applauds you, please just know
you've done the thing that fame can never show.
You found a person sitting in the dark
and didn't lecture, didn't miss the mark.
You simply stayed. You sat until their eyes
adjusted, till the fear shrank down in size,
until the mornings felt like something new.
You gave a whole life back. You know it's true.
You're twenty-one. The world has yet to hear.
But fame is only strangers giving cheer.
You're already famous, and you'll always be,
to every life you've touched.
Especially me.
